RD 12 WAFLW PREVIEW | v SWAN DISTRICTS

South Fremantle have a chance to make a big statement in the WAFLW for 2026 when they play host to the league-leading Swan Districts on Sunday.

The Bulldogs will take on the Swans in the Round 12 WAFLW match up this Sunday at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with the game getting underway at 12:10pm.

The Bulldogs are coming off that heart stopping win over West Perth last week that pushed them up into fourth place as they now take on a Swans team that needs to keep winning to remain where they are at the top of the WAFLW ladder.

South Fremantle scored a thrilling win last Saturday with a goal on the siren to Shannyn Pomersbach to beat West Perth by three points and that improved the Bulldogs to a 5-4 record with a draw to currently be sitting in fourth position coming into Round 12.

Swan Districts, meanwhile, remain in top spot with a 9-1 record and are fresh off beating East Perth by 16 points at home last Saturday.

The two teams did already play one another earlier this season back on Good Friday at Steel Blue Oval and on that occasion it was Swan Districts beating South Fremantle 10.5 (65) to 2.5 (17) as part of their undefeated start to 2026.

On that day, Pomersbach kicked both of South Fremantle’s goals while Ash Gomes picked up 22 possessions, Mikayla Hyde 22 against her former team, Tash Entwistle 17 and captain Hunter Cronin 15.

Coming off kicking the winning goal on the siren last week for South Fremantle, Pomersbach is looking forward to the challenge now up against the league-leading Swan Districts on Sunday.

“They’ve obviously been a quality side for a few years now and they’ve got a strong midfield and obviously Jaime Henry’s having an incredible season,” Pomersbach told 91.3 SportFM.

“I think in the last game we probably unfortunately didn’t play our style of footy against them for the whole four quarters.

“I definitely think we’re capable of taking it to them, it’s just a matter of sticking to our game and hopefully kicking a few more goals this time after we got just the two last time. We’ll work on that we’re really excited for this one.”

The day’s action on Sunday gets underway at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with the Rogers Cup match up between South Fremantle and Swan Districts starting at 10:05am.

South Fremantle come into the clash fresh off a heartbreaking one-point loss to West Perth last Saturday also at home while Swan Districts continued their winning ways with the 16-point win over East Perth.

That means that coming into Sunday’s match up and the Bulldogs need a win to stay in the finals race currently sitting in seventh place at 3-7 as they take on a Swans team in second position with an 8-2 record.

The two teams already met earlier this season back in Round 2 at Steel Blue Oval and on that occasion it was a 10.7 (67) to 4.5 (29) victory on a Thursday night for the Swans against the Bulldogs.
