ROGERS CUP PRELIMINARY FINAL PREVIEW

SOUTH Fremantle’s Youth Girls team has the chance to reach a second straight Rogers Cup Grand Final with a win in Sunday’s preliminary final.

After losing last Sunday’s second semi-final against West Perth in the Rogers Cup competition, the South Fremantle Youth Girls team has the chance to reach a second consecutive Grand Final.

The Bulldogs are taking on Peel Thunder in Sunday’s preliminary final that bounces down at 10.30am at Bassendean’s Steel Blue Oval.

A win and South Fremantle will take on West Perth in next weekend’s Rogers Cup Grand Final to be held at Mandurah’s David Grays Arena.

On the back of winning last year’s premiership in the Rogers Cup competition, South Fremantle’s Youth Girls put together another strong season in 2021 winning 10 of 14 matches to finish the home and away season in second position on the ladder.

That set up a second semi-final match up last Sunday against West Perth who went through the season undefeated but having drawn with South Fremantle along the way.

It was a tight and tense battle last Sunday in the second semi-final at Steel Blue Oval but West Perth managed to beat South Fremantle 2.9 (21) to 2.3 (15) to book their place in the Grand Final.

But South Fremantle now has a second chance to win their way into the Grand Final and they have the added bonus in the preliminary final of being familiar at playing at Steel Blue Oval last week.

From the South Fremantle’s Youth Girls team that won the premiership last year, Shanay Del Borrello, Poppy Stockwell, Darcy Clements, Sienna Simunovich, Mia Whitelaw, Holly Denholm, Indi Strom, Hayley Kennewell, Rosie Anderson and Emily Boothman will be there again this Sunday attempting to win their way into a second Grand Final.

Coming into the preliminary final on Sunday, South Fremantle and Peel are meeting for the third time now in 2021 on the back of the Bulldogs beating the Thunder in last year’s Grand Final.

The first clash this season took place in Round 4 at David Grays Arena with South Fremantle winning over Peel 5.2 (32) to 4.3 (27).

Next up was in Round 11 at Fremantle Community Bank Oval and it was another win for South Fremantle, but again it was a tight contest 5.4 (34) to 4.4 (28).

And from the South Fremantle team that played West Perth in last week’s second semi-final, Leah Garbellini, Chelsea Harp, Charlotte Johnson, Hayley Kennewell and Sienna Simunovich have been added to the extended squad with Elenora Pinna going out.

And for Peel who beat East Fremantle in last week’s first semi-final, Dylza Geonzon, Sharreckah Johnes, Jade Mead and Paige Vos come into the squad with Maddison Rimmer going out.
