The Inside Word | Dylan Main Player Column NAIDOC Round
AS we just tick over the mid-way point of the season, it has been a very promising one thus far. I’m not sure how many people would have predicted us to have already notched up eight wins and to be sitting equal second on the ladder after 11 games.
It shows the great youth we have coming up through the development ranks and how well we have gelled after a large overhaul.
The last two weeks/losses have been disappointing to say the least though. Subiaco were just stronger and harder on the day and proved why they have been the benchmark of the competition for the last decade, whilst we felt like we dominated all the stats against the Eagles, we just failed to execute and get the reward for effort.
Now after two consecutive losses in the wet, we head over the river to Claremont this weekend which looks like it’s going to be just as miserable weather, however, that's something we have had two weeks of preparation for at least.
Going off our recent history with the Tigers, the game will have plenty of spice and will go down to the wire! To be able to take it up to them we will need to bring our aggressive style of play, something the team has gone away from in the previous couple of games, and will need to be at our best, something I’m confident can be done and will be done – watch this space!
We have created a strong base platform of eight wins thus far and look forward to building on that and finish off the season like we started!
It is also NAIDOC Round this weekend, something very special to all WAFL clubs, in particular South Fremantle who have a rich history of producing some quality indigenous talent.
Most recently we have seen Tim Kelly and Matty Parker dominating at the highest level and Marlion Pickett finally given his chance in the mid-season draft (will also dominate AFL).
I have been lucky enough to play alongside these quality players and humans, however passed Bulldogs also include Hall of Famer, Stephen Michael to the Matera Brothers, Toby McGrath, Jeff Farmer, Nicky Winmar and the list continues on!
The NAIDOC round gives us all a chance to recognise these incredible talents that have provided our game with so many highlights and something as a team, we are truly honoured to play in!
We hope to see a strong fan base at Claremont oval this week the see us slog it out in our superb NAIDOC guernseys!
