ROUND 7 WAFLW PREVIEW V SUBIACO

SOUTH Fremantle's first ever WAFL Women's season comes to an end on Sunday with the Bulldogs presented the chance to put in an encouraging performance against a Subiaco team already locked into top spot.

South Fremantle was accepted into the 2020 Optus WAFL Women's Premiership Season on relatively short notice for the first time to join East Fremantle, Swan Districts, Subiaco, Claremont and Peel Thunder who took part in the first WAFLW season in 2019.

So the Bulldogs were always up against it coming into the delayed 2020 season and it has been tough going over the opening six games.

However, it can't be ignored that South Fremantle is a more competitive and competent outfit coming into Round 7 than they were back in Round 1 in a derby to forget against East Fremantle at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

Now South Fremantle's inaugural WAFLW season comes to an end this Sunday against Subiaco at Leederville Oval. The game bounces down at 2pm.

STROM LEADING BULLDOGS IN FIRST WAFLW SEASON

South Fremantle can finish the season on a positive note against Subiaco on Sunday with the knowledge of how far they have improved from those two scoreless games to start the 2020 season against East Fremantle and Peel Thunder.

There is no question the improvement shown from the Bulldogs over the last month and now finishing the season in positive fashion against the Lions will give everyone involved in the squad a positive injection to take into the pre-season and the 2021 season with them.

Coming into the game, Subiaco is already guaranteed of finishing in top spot for the second straight WAFLW season. Last year the Lions also ended the home and away season on top but failed to reach the Grand Final having lost the preliminary final to Swan Districts.

South Fremantle can't get off the bottom of the ladder no matter the result on Sunday but there's still plenty for everyone out there representing the Mighty Red V to play for.

Last time the teams met was back in Round 4 also at Leederville Oval with Subiaco beating South Fremantle 14.11 (95) to 2.2 (14).

On that day, Aimee Schmidt kicked a career-best five goals for Subiaco while Lara Filocamo kicked three, Kia Buckley two and Abbey Dowrick two.

South Fremantle's goals on that day came courtesy of Kiara Templeman and Lauren Vecchio.

From the South Fremantle team that lost to Claremont last week, Ebony Humble, Jaymi Karapetkov, Tasha McAlpine and Chae-Lee Salbie have all been included into the team for the final round.

Ebony Clarkson, Hunter Cronin, Tara Garlett and Poppy Stockwell go out of the team for South Fremantle.

Meanwhile for Subiaco, Abbey Dowrick, Cassandra Harvey, Lauren Jeffers, Amy Lavell and Emily Smith.

Kia Buckley, Janelle Cuthbertson, Beatrice Devlyn, Lara Filocamo, Claudia Langley, Hayley Miller, Jessica Ritchie and Ange Stannett all go out for the Lions.

The thee South Fremantle female teams are certainly spread far and wide this weekend starting on Saturday night with the Youth Girls Rogers Cup match up against East Perth at Leederville Oval from 5.15.

Then also on Sunday at midday, South Fremantle's reserves team takes on Claremont at Claremont's Revo Fitness Stadium.
