ROUND 11 WAFLW PREVIEW V EAST FREMANTLE

Friday, May 7, 2021 - 2:32 PM by Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle has another chance at that first ever WAFLW victory when hosting East Fremantle at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Sunday.

Every time South Fremantle steps out onto the field in the Optus WAFLW Premiership Season it's a chance of history with that first ever win, but some games seem more winnable than others and this Sunday appears to be one of those.

East Fremantle might have won the first ever WAFLW premiership back in 2019 and again reached the preliminary final in 2020, but the Sharks haven’t quite gone as well so far in 2021.

East Fremantle comes into Sunday's contest against South Fremantle at Fremantle Community Bank Oval in fifth position on the ladder with just a 2-7 record to be a game and significant percentage now out of a top four spot.

So East Fremantle comes into the derby on Sunday at the port needing to win to stay in the finals race as the season end draws nearer in the WAFLW competition.

But at the same time it does appear a real chance for South Fremantle to throw everything at the game in an effort to taste victory for the first ever time in their second season in the WAFLW competition.

South Fremantle went down to Subiaco last week in the WAFLW competition, and from that team L Gilchrist, Chae Salbie and Sarah Wright go out while Gabriell Canicosa, Sheridan Kowald, Nakita Little, Shakira Pickett and Aaliyah Ugle are the inclusions.

East Fremantle went down to Peel Thunder last Saturday and from that side, Cadian Lodge, Paisley Prentice, Skye Prentice, Elle Sanders, Stephanie Sparke and Dynella Tripi have all been included.

Meanwhile, Doma Fedele, Mylee Leitch, Sara Lewis, Laura McClelland, Anjelique Raison and Claudia Rowell are out of the Sharks team.

So far in the season and-a-half that South Fremantle has been involved in the WAFLW competition they have played East Fremantle just the two times for losses by 88 points and 46 points.

It will be a full day of female football action on Mother's Day Sunday at Fremantle Community Bank Oval as well.

The day gets underway with the Youth Girls in Rogers Cup action against Peel Thunder in a rematch of last year's Grand Final that was won by the Bulldogs.

South Fremantle comes into the game in fourth position with a 5-3 record to be only narrowly behind the third placed Peel who sits third at 6-3.

South Fremantle and Peel Thunder will also do battle in the WAFLW Reserves match up from 12pm.

The Bulldogs come into the game in fifth position with a 4-4 record while the Thunder sit third at 5-3.

South Fremantle's reserves team has several changes to it with Makayla Cocking, Hayley Kennewell, Georgia Kowald, Chae Salbie and Maya Tyrrell back into the team.

Meanwhile, Gabrielle Canicosa, Charlotte Johnson, Shakira Pickett, Paige Silcock and Poppy Stockwell all go out of the South Fremantle line-up.
