BULLDOGS WITH SECOND CHANCE FOR YOUTH GIRLS DECIDER
SOUTH Fremantle's reigning premier Youth Girls team couldn’t quite overcome West Perth in Sunday's Rogers Cup second semi-final but they still have a second chance to reach the Grand Final.
The WAFLW finals series got underway on Sunday and that included South Fremantle's Youth Girls team being part of the Rogers Cup second semi-final against West Perth at Steel Blue Oval.
A place in the Grand Final on the weekend of July 3/4 at Mandurah's David Grays Arena was on the line and little separated the Bulldogs and Falcons the entire contest at the Bassendean venue on Sunday morning.
Both teams had the one scoring shot in the first quarter with West Perth kicking a goal and South Fremantle a behind.
The Bulldogs managed just the one behind again in the second term but the Falcons also added just three points to see West Perth leading by seven points at half-time.
South Fremantle then didn’t manage a score at all in the third quarter but West Perth failed to put the game out of reach other by only adding four behinds themselves.
South Fremantle stepped up to kick their only two goals of the game in the final quarter to threaten pulling off the comeback win to go straight into the Grand Final, but it wasn’t quite to be with West Perth holding on to win 2.9 (21) to 2.3 (15).
But the Bulldogs still have a second chance to qualify for the Rogers Cup Grand Final and that takes place this Sunday back at Steel Blue Oval with a preliminary final encounter with Peel Thunder who won their first semi-final match up with East Fremantle by a solitary point.
Emily Boothman and Elenora Pinna were the two players to kick a goal each for South Fremantle in the last quarter.
Throughout the game, Noa McNaughton, Hannah Young, Paige Silcock, Jess Howley and Rosie Anderson were among the standout performers for the Bulldogs.
