ROGERS CUP GRAND FINAL PREVIEW
SOUTH Fremantle's Youth Girls have the chance to win back-to-back Rogers Cup premierships when the Bulldogs face West Perth in Mandurah on Sunday morning.
South Fremantle has backed up the premiership triumph in 2020 in the Youth Girls by putting together another outstanding season in 2021 to now end up in Sunday's Grand Final at Mandurah's David Grays Arena.
The Bulldogs and Falcons were the two standout teams in the Rogers Cup competition for 2021 and after doing battle in the second semi-final, they now meet again on Sunday in Mandurah with the premiership at stake.
South Fremantle is attempting to make it back-to-back premierships in the Youth Girls competition if they can overcome West Perth in Mandurah on Sunday morning.
From the team that won the Rogers Cup premiership in 2021 by defeating Peel Thunder in the Grand Final, Shanay Del Borrello, Poppy Stockwell, Indi Strom, Emily Boothman, Mia Whitelaw, Holly Denholm, Darcy Clements and Rosie Anderson were all part of the team that won last week's preliminary final against the Thunder.
That set up a tantalising Grand Final now between South Fremantle and West Perth to determine the first premiership across the WAFL competitions for 2021.
West Perth and South Fremantle have taken each other on in three matches in the Rogers Cup competition this season, with some fascinating results and tremendous contests.
The first clash was back in Round 6 at Fremantle Community Bank Oval and it was the Falcons who came away with the 5.8 (38) to 2.0 (12) victory on that occasion.
Things were a lot closer in Round 12 and in fact so close that the two teams couldn’t be separated at Joondalup's Provident Financial Oval. The game ended up a draw with the Bulldogs finishing at 4.1 (25) and the Falcons at 3.7 (25).
The most recent clash took place in the second semi-final at Bassendean's Steel Blue Oval with a place in the Grand Final at stake. That saw West Perth narrowly defeat South Fremantle 2.9 (21) to 2.3 (15).
Over the 12 quarters that the two teams have played against one another at three different venues so far in 2021, West Perth has outscored South Fremantle 10.24 (84) to 8.4 (52).
It will now be a fourth venue that they meet at for 2021 in the Grand Final in Mandurah on Sunday and while the Falcons have had 34 scoring shots to 12 against the Bulldogs so far this year, if South Fremantle can continue to take its chances, back-to-back premierships remains a possibility.
