2022 | WAFL INs & OUTs

At the conclusion of the 2021 season, we farewelled several players that would be moving on from the Club.

The following players have departed:

Jacob Dragovich - Eaton Boomers
Brock Higgins - Retired from WAFL (to PFL)
Jesse Motlop - Carlton (AFL)
Matthew Parker - Richmond (AFL)
Blayne Wilson - Retired from WAFL (to PFL)
Jason Maskos - Retired from WAFL (to PFL)
Cody Ninyette - Work commitments 

Our recruitment efforts were extensive over the off-season, securing several new and exciting players who will add great value to our list.

We are confident that our new recruits will fit comfortably into the roles made vacant over the off season, bolstering our list as we attempt to bring home our Club's 15th League Premiership.

As analysis for fans on the eve of the 2022 WAFL season, we have assessed some of our key departures alongside our arrivals, to provide a guide on recruiting mentality. 

Matthew Parker OUT | Brendon Ah Chee IN
Matthew Parker returns to Richmond in the AFL with Brendon Ah Chee joining Souths from the West Coast Eagles. A classy midfielder, with clean hands and foot skills, along with his strongly framed body. Brendan will be a highly experienced and valuable player in the Bulldogs’ midfield and forward line. His goal sense will be an important acquisition, as we look to replace the 43 goals contributed last season following the departure of Cody Ninyette. 

Brock Higgins OUT | Ashton Williamson IN
We farewelled a warrior in Brock Higgins, the cult hero retiring from WAFL competition. In 2022 we welcome Ashton Williamson to assist Hamish Free, Solomon James and Jimmy Miller in the middle. Williamson (and James) are two exciting, developing ruckmen expected to make their mark on the competition into the future.

Blayne Wilson OUT | Jordan Boullineau IN
We also farewelled another stalwart in Blayne Wilson. Coming into the club is Jordan Boullineau from Peel Thunder, via Baldivis. Jordan is a mature body with a strong overhead mark. His rebound football is expected to be a feature of play in 2022. Jordan is a helpful replacement for the retired Blayne Wilson in a lockdown defender role. 

Jason Maskos OUT | Josh Cuneo IN
Jason Maskos also retired last season, looking to continue his decorated football career in the PFL. Josh Cuneo, formerly from East Fremantle, enters the squad as a tall defensive utility. Josh will be an asset in replacing the "Mr Fix-It" role in the backline, with ability to play small and tall.

Lachy Taylor IN
Lachy Taylor arrives from St Mary's in the NTFL, a club with deep connections and history with South Fremantle. Taylor is a lighter framed, explosive player who is super quick with clean skills across the ground. He will provide prominent ball movement on big WAFL grounds. 

Caleb Datson & Steven Verrier RETURNED
Returning 2020 premiership players Caleb Datson & Steve Verrier are vital inclusions into the squad. Caleb adds strength, pace and experience to the forward line, whilst Steve’s ability to play anywhere on the ground and his leadership make him a quality team player who is always 100% committed to the contest. He will help replace Jacob Dragovich in the team's engine room, in a stellar midfield that includes Schloithe, Blechynden, Main and Florenca.
