RD 17 PREVIEW | v PEEL THUNDER
Author: South Fremantle Football Club
If South Fremantle want to play finals this WAFLW season then they need to win their last two games starting this Saturday afternoon against Peel Thunder in Mandurah.
South Fremantle had the bye last weekend which did see them slip to sixth position in the WAFLW competition with two rounds remaining but they do still remain a good chance to play finals with two wins in the last two games.
That challenge begins on Saturday afternoon against Peel Thunder at Lane Group Stadium with the game getting underway at 1pm.
South Fremantle comes into the last two rounds of the season sitting in sixth position with an 8-6 record to be just one game still behind the fourth placed East Fremantle but the Sharks do only have one game remaining which is against the third placed Swan Districts.
That leaves the Bulldogs just needing to focus on beating Peel and West Perth in the last two games of the season, and should they achieve that then they will be a strong chance to break back into the top four and earn a finals opportunity.
Prior to the bye last weekend and South Fremantle did suffer a narrow six-point loss at the hands of Swan Districts, but prior to that and the Bulldogs had won three straight matches including handing both Subiaco and Claremont their first losses of the 2025 season.
That highlights what this Bulldogs team of 2025 is capable of as they prepare to play a Peel team in Mandurah on Saturday afternoon who are sitting with a 3-12 record and having lost their past five matches.
The last time the two teams met was back in Round 3 of this season at Fremantle Community Bank Oval which saw South Fremantle score the 5.8 (38) to 3.5 (23) victory against Peel.
In that win, Tahleah Mulder racked up 34 possessions for the Bulldogs, Alyssa Smogavec 22, Holly Ifould 22, Hunter Cronin 17 and Lauren Vecchio 16 to go with six tackles.
From the South Fremantle team that narrowly lost to Swan Districts two weeks ago, Bailey Hunt, Renee Morgan and Caitlin Pears come into the side to face Peel on Saturday.
Going out for the Bulldogs are Tashuana Munn, Madison Hadley and Ella Matthews.
Peel went down to Swan Districts as well last week and from that team, Cassie Davidson, Charlie Fletcher and Heidi Ireland come back into the side to take on the Bulldogs.
Going out for the Thunder are Cerys Zurek, Charlize Thompson and Arianna Norris.
The Rogers Cup clash also between South Fremantle and Peel also takes place at Lane Group Stadium and will get underway from 3pm.
South Fremantle comes into the clash currently sitting in fifth position in the Rogers Cup with six wins, seven losses and a draw and still a chance to play finals if they win their last two games.
The Bulldogs will need to win both games against Peel and West Perth, and then hope that Claremont loses to West Perth and Subiaco if they are to play finals in the Rogers Cup in 2025.
South Fremantle lost to Swan Districts two weeks ago and from that team, Shakeeyah Dempster and Lina Morrone coming into the side to face Peel.
Going out for the Bulldogs are Zarlya Yarran and Leyla Holland.
Peel also lost to Swan Districts last week in the Rogers Cup with Zoe Banks-Smith, Olivia Cooper, Ava Cristodero, Ava O’Neill, Alicia Van Duren and Piper Wadley coming into the team to face South Fremantle.
Going out for the Thunder are Tiama Collard, Heidi Ireland, Jorja Tournay and Ruby
