WAFLW | BULLDOGS KEEP ON WINNING

South Fremantle made it three straight WAFLW victories to remain solid in fourth position by the end of Round 16 following the 48-point victory against East Perth on Sunday.

South Fremantle were back at Fremantle Community Bank Oval to host East Perth and needing to keep winning to remain solid in fourth position.

The Bulldogs then started well with the three goals to one in the first quarter before another three to one in the second, and then the only three goals of the second half.

That saw South Fremantle secure the 9.8 (62) to 2.2 (14) victory to make it three wins in-a-row to remain in fourth position with eight wins, five losses and draw by the end of Round 16.

On the back of a stunning six-goal debut last week for South Fremantle, South Australian Kiana Lee kicked another two goals on Sunday with Jess Watts also adding two goals.

TJ Mulder also gathered 18 possessions in the win for the Bulldogs, Hannah Burt 16, Ash Gomes 15, Ella Matthews 12, Hunter Cronin 11 and Annalie Polimeno 11 while Kate Newson had 39 hit outs to go with seven disposals.

South Fremantle made a perfect start to the game with a goal to Makaela Tuhakaraina inside the opening five minutes before Shannyn Pomersbach and Ella Matthews adding goals as well for the Bulldogs to go into quarter-time with the 12-point advantage.

After kicking the last goal of the first quarter, East Perth also kicked the first of the second to close the gap back to six points before the Bulldogs kicked the last three goals heading into half-time.

Those goals came courtesy of Madi Hadley, Jess Watts and Jess Skinner for South Fremantle to go into the half-time break leading by 26 points.

There was only one goal between the two teams in the third quarter and that was also to the Bulldogs from second-gamer Kiana Lee to help the home team out to a 35-point edge.

Watts and Lee then both kicked their second goals of the contest in the last quarter with South Fremantle going on to secure the 48-point victory to remain solid in fourth position in the WAFLW.

The Sunday action at Fremantle Community Bank Oval got underway on Sunday morning with the Rogers Cup match up that ended up seeing East Perth beating South Fremantle 6.5 (41) to 5.4 (34).

East Perth started well away from home with two goals to one in the first quarter before the Royals kicked the only goal of the second term to go into half-time leading by 10 points.

East Perth also kicked another two goals to one from South Fremantle in the third quarter before the Bulldogs did make a strong finish with three goals in the quarter but it wasn’t quite enough with them falling seven points short.

The result leaves South Fremantle in sixth position in the Rogers Cup after Round 16 with a 5-9 record to be three games behind both the fourth placed Perth and fifth ranked Subiaco.

Maddi Catley had a big performance up forward for South Fremantle kicking four of the team’s five goals with the other kicked by Gracie-Lee Briggs.
