DESPITE the loss of experience and quality over summer, South Fremantle coach Todd Curley is confident the Bulldogs can remain a force in 2019 largely because of those in the wings who have been desperate for opportunities at league level.
South Fremantle has had a strong run for three years now having finished the home and away season in each of the three campaigns in second positions before ending up in the preliminary finals, but not quite being able to advance to a Grand Final.
On the back of the shock 2018 preliminary final loss to West Perth at Fremantle Community Bank Oval, it marked the end of an era with the host of stars from that era and even from before that deciding it was their time to move on.

SOUTH Fremantle's official WAFL pre-season hit outs will see them take on the league's last two premiers Peel Thunder and Subiaco ahead of the Round 1 clash with Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval.
South Fremantle will have two solid hit outs over the next two weekends all in the lead up to Round 1 of the 2019 WAFL season.
That Round 1 clash will see the Bulldogs take on Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday April 6.
The build up to that now begins on Saturday March 23 against Peel Thunder at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

KADE Stewart needed a year back home in Katanning following the shock of being delisted by Hawthorn, but having dominated there he is back with South Fremantle in 2019 and ready to show what he can do as a midfielder in the WAFL.
Stewart was an exciting junior coming through the ranks at South Fremantle and went on to play some league football alongside older brother Tim late in the 2015 season before they also shared the reserves premiership under Tony Walters together.
The smooth-moving left-footer was subsequently picked up by Hawthorn and over the next two years showed plenty of signs to suggest he was right at home at AFL level in the seven games he played with the Hawks.

THE biggest decision Ben Saunders had to make in his football career was leaving Claremont for South Fremantle, but as he reflects on his outstanding WAFL career now, it was the best thing he did and set the stage for plenty of great highlights.
After moving up to Perth from Mt Barker, the Claremont Football Club became a home base for Saunders and he thought that the Tigers would be his long-term WAFL home as far as he could see into the future.
He arrived at Tigerland at an era where breaking into the league team as a young player was anything but easy as they went through a run from 2010-2013 of winning four straight minor premierships, playing in three Grand Finals and winning two premierships.

A DECISION to retire is never easy but when relief is what you feel when you make the announcement it's usually a good sign even if it will be a shame for WAFL football followers that this decade's standout goalkicker Ben Saunders has called time.
Saunders has been one of the standout players this decade in the WAFL and while he always looked like an exciting talent coming through at Claremont as a teenager having made the move from Mt Barker, it was at South Fremantle that he made his mark.
It was quite the tough Tigers line-up to break into when Saunders was ready to come into league ranks with them claiming four straight minor premierships from 2010-2013 and winning premierships in 2011 and 2012.

Dear Members and Supporters,
Each year, South Fremantle Football Club endeavours to recruit new players via our vast network across Australia. The majority are young men aged between 18 and 22 and can relocate to Perth from all over Australia.
As a club we recognise the need to provide high quality accommodation to our young men in their first year of playing at the elite level and for their long-term development as responsible adults.
