SOUTH Fremantle has again provided the AFL with an excitement machine with Callum Ah Chee being picked at No. 8 in the AFL Draft in Adelaide on Tuesday night by the Gold Coast Suns.

Ah Chee was Gold Coast's first selection in the AFL Draft and the 18-year-old now joins fellow South Fremantle products Jarrod Garlett and Brandon Matera at the Suns for the 2016 season.

The exciting forward and wingman was the first draft pick from Western Australia continuing South Fremantle's strong tradition of providing some of the best talent in the country after Jarrod Pickett was taken at No. 4 last year by the GWS Giants and Garlett with selection 15 by the Suns.

CALLUM Ah Chee appears set to be South Fremantle's second exciting Indigenous talent taken in the top 10 of the AFL National Draft in as many years when the 2015 edition takes place in Adelaide on Tuesday evening.

Just 12 months after Jarrod Pickett was taken at pick No. 4 by the GWS Giants and the Gold Coast Suns selected Jarrod Garlett at No. 15, Ah Chee will be the next South Fremantle product to enter the AFL as a prodigious talent.

Ah Chee has long been looked at as an AFL player of the future having been involved with the AIS-AFL Academy, but until Round 16 of this year he had yet to play against men which is what has just about guaranteed him as a top selection at this year's draft.

THE South Fremantle Football Club wishes to announce that Frankston VFL captain Shane Hockey has signed a two-year deal to join the Bulldogs from the 2016 WAFL season with several other key players also re-signing.

Hockey arrives at South Fremantle with a reputation as a tremendous leader as well as a tough and prolific midfielder after over 100 games in the VFL with Frankston including the 2015 season as skipper.

He joins the Bulldogs on a two-year contract and is one of several new player signings that the South Fremantle Football Club will announce in coming weeks heading into Todd Curley's second season in charge as coach looking to return to the finals in 2016 after a four-year absence.

THE South Fremantle Football Club has appointed former dual reserves premiership player Mark Foster to the newly created role as head coach of the South Fremantle Development Academy.

Foster returns to South Fremantle after a career that saw him play four league matches and in the 2004 and 2009 reserves premiership teams to fill the new position that sees his responsibilities stretch across the Warriors, colts and in coaching the coaches of the entire development group.

In conjunction with the WA Football Commission, the South Fremantle Football Club interviewed a number of quality candidates for the role who were put through a rigorous process to find the right person for the newly created position.

ASHTON Hams has claimed his first WJ Hughes Medal as the South Fremantle Football Club fairest and best award winner capping off a tremendous 2015 WAFL season that included him representing Western Australia and earning life membership at the Bulldogs.

Hams had a tremendous season for South Fremantle with the 29-year-old dual premiership player spending the majority of the season in the midfield, averaging 29.9 possessions a game being tremendously consistent not having a game with less than 17 touches.

Along the way, he had 10 matches with 30 or more disposals and in the last 10 games of the 2015 season he was particularly outstanding averaging 33 possessions.

SOUTH Fremantle's reserves were the dominant team all season and didn’t trip up in the Grand Final at Domain Stadium on Sunday beating Swan Districts by 71 points for a second premiership in three years.

South Fremantle lost just two games all season long in the reserves and had won its last eight straight matches coming into the grand final, but it was Swan Districts who handed the Bulldogs their last defeat back in Round 14.

And Swans came into the grand final in good form following finals victories over West Perth and Subiaco, but come the decider it was a fresher and stronger South Fremantle line-up that was in control most of the contest despite the black-and-whites booting the first goal.

SOUTH Fremantle has been the dominant team in the WAFL reserves competition all season long but Swan Districts is the last team to defeat the Bulldogs setting up Sunday's grand final at Domain Stadium.

South Fremantle won 18 of its 20 matches throughout the 2015 home and away season to finish four games clear on top of the ladder, and then won straight through into the grand final with a 47-point second semi-final victory over Subiaco at Medibank Stadium.

Swan Districts, meanwhile, has built some good momentum heading into the finals winning 10 of its last 11 matches before losing to Subiaco by two points in the qualifying final but then going on to beat West Perth by 32 points in the first semi-final and the Lions by 61 points in the preliminary final last Sunday.

SOUTH Fremantle has been the dominant reserves team all season and now coach Tony Walters is looking to finish the job in Sunday's grand final against Swan Districts in what will be Paul Mugambwa's final game with the Bulldogs.

South Fremantle's league team might have not made the finals since 2011, but the reserves have again delivered an outstanding 2015 season to have a chance of winning a second premiership in three years with Walters as coach.

The Bulldogs finished the home and away season with an 18-2 record to be four games clear as minor premiers earning them a break in the first week of the finals ahead of a second semi-final against Subiaco.

IT has been hard over the last couple of weeks to keep this Sunday's grand final out of your mind. Any grand final is an exciting time to be part of and this is always the time of year you want to be playing footy. With the week off that we earned last week it kind of magnifies things, and it really gets you going and excited for what's to come.

We set ourselves for a big game against Subiaco in the second semi-final and Wilbur has been onto us through the whole finals series about keeping things similar, and keeping our attitude right. When that attitude is right, the effort is naturally there and we set ourselves for a big one two weeks ago, and we ended up with 23 contributors in a strong team effort to make the grand final. You only have to look at the statistics from the game and apart from maybe Colly and Bewy, most of the other blokes shared the load which was good.

SOUTH Fremantle hasn’t had a Sandover Medal winner since Toby McGrath back in the premiership year of 2005 but that could very well change this Monday night with Ashton Hams one of the hot favourites.

Hams has continued to put together one of the great modern careers of a South Fremantle footballer and if he's able to add a Sandover Medal to his growing resume, then it will only serve to add to his growing reputation.

The 29-year-old has already played in two premierships with South Fremantle, is a grand final and state game Simpson Medal winner, has played for WA twice and is a life member of the Bulldogs having reached his 150-game milestone late in the 2015 season.
