Round 9 Preview v Peel Thunder

Friday, May 15, 2015 - 11:17 PM - by Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle got back to winning form prior to the bye and now will be looking to cement a spot in the top five against Peel Thunder on Saturday at Fremantle Oval heading into next week's State match with South Australia.

South Fremantle returned to the winner's list prior to last week's bye ending a three-game losing slide and now the Bulldogs will be looking to make it two straight heading into the State game break while handing Peel Thunder a third successive loss as well at Fremantle Oval on Saturday.

Both South Fremantle and Peel currently occupy positions inside the WAFL's top five heading into the round, but the loser on Saturday could find themselves slipping outside if either Swan Districts or East Perth are able to record victories at the same time.

Player Column – Jarrod Parry Round 9

Friday, May 15, 2015 - 2:31 PM - by Jarrod Parry

TO BE back playing regular league football is a fantastic feeling after what has been a pretty tough time with some injuries have had to overcome the last few years.

I reflect back on my league debut back in 2010 and it was a Friday night game against West Perth and it was about 10 degrees on a cold, wet and windy night at Fremantle Oval. I was pretty pleased with the weather as it brought everyone down to my level. We played well and had a great win which is something I will always remember.

After coming off my first senior year and managing a handful of league games, I was looking forward to having a strong pre-season and hopefully become a consistent league footballer in 2011. In our first intra-club scratch match of the year I changed direction like I have done thousands of times before but my knee buckled and gave way. A week later I saw the doctor to get it assessed and I received the news that I had ruptured my ACL. The positive was I had been booked in for surgery the next day, giving me little time to think about it.

Bulldogs youngsters Dragovich, Panizza grabbing opportunity

Friday, May 15, 2015 - 10:18 AM - by Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle coach Todd Curley hasn’t been afraid to make some hard decisions in his first seven games in charge of the Bulldogs and he has been delighted with how some young players have grabbed their opportunities in particular Jacob Dragovich and Simon Panizza.

Curley's time at the helm of South Fremantle got off to the perfect start with three straight wins over West Perth, Perth and Claremont to open the 2015 WAFL season, but losses to Swan Districts, Subiaco and East Fremantle then saw some pressure build on senior players at the Bulldogs.

Curley made some big calls on senior players including Craig White and Dylan Ross to give them a spell in the reserves following the 89-point loss to Subiaco, and has blooded some youth with Panizza and Dragovich snapping up that opportunity the last two weeks.

Player Column – Josh Pullman Round 8

Tuesday, May 12, 2015 - 11:43 AM - by Josh Pullman

I HAVE been fortunate enough to play in some great forward-lines in my career so far, and I’m a big fan of the squad of forwards we have now at both senior and reserves levels at South Fremantle.

A common theme amongst the successful forward-lines at most higher tiers of footy seems to be the old adage of a team-first mentality.

Although fostering a genuine, consistent team-first mentality sounds simple on paper, it’s actually a tough mindset to instil and maintain in players in a highly competitive environment. This is especially true amongst forward lines, whose job it is to individually contribute and collectively produce goals in order to hold their spot in a side. Read More [+]

Catch up on all 7 Whitey's Whispers episodes

Saturday, May 9, 2015 - 1:28 PM - by Chris Pike

WITH South Fremantle having the bye this week, we thought we would take this chance to take a look back on the show that has taken the football world by storm so far in 2015 - Whitey's Whispers.

Dual premiership Bulldogs veteran Craig White has been the host of seven episodes now of his popular weekly program out of Fremantle Oval.

It all started back in Round 1 when Shaun Bewick looked ahead to taking on his former team to start the season before Haiden Schloithe then took the chance to hit back on that controversial first show heading into the Round 2 win over Perth.

Bulldogs beat Royals to return to winner's list in style

Monday, May 4, 2015 - 6:25 PM - by Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle returned to the winner's list on Saturday with an impressive 13-point victory over East Perth largely on the back of a five-goal to nil third quarter.

The Bulldogs had their chances to open up a handy lead during the first half as well, but only managed to head into half-time with 4.11 on the board, but on the back of five goals to nil in the third quarter they ended up beating the Royals 11.16 (82) to 10.9 (69) at Medibank Stadium.

South Fremantle came into the game having lost its last three matches on the back of winning the opening three games of the year, and also had just a five-day break following Monday's Anzac Derby loss to East Fremantle.

Player Column – Dylan Ross Round 7

Saturday, May 2, 2015 - 9:10 AM - by Dylan Ross

OBVIOUSLY getting dropped is never the easiest thing to take, but I have just focused on going back trying to play the best I can and offering some leadership, and following the lead from guys like Red and Gumby to try and get back in the ones as quickly as I can.

Obviously with the longer week we trained Saturday morning before playing on Monday, and Toddy just came up to me and had a chat, and said that there's a few things I need to address moving forward and he thought it was in with the best interests of the team that I had a run in the twos. No one's bigger than the footy clubs and if that's his decision that's his decision, unfortunately both teams didn’t go too well on the weekend against East Fremantle.

I had wrist surgery over summer so that inhibited my pre-season a little bit so my touch was a little bit off and confidence was a little bit down. That was the main reason the main reason I was given, it wasn’t so much that one game against Subi but the form over the whole season. Obviously I would like to be in the ones but that's how it rolls.
