PLAYING through the finals without a break is something South Fremantle coach Todd Curley believes will work in the favour of the Bulldogs coming into Sunday's Grand Final against Claremont.

Coming off playing in three straight preliminary finals and then breaking through to reach a Grand Final in 2019, South Fremantle took the next step in 2020 after four straight second place finishes to claim the minor premiership after winning the opening seven games of the season.

The form in the last round to lose to Perth and then in the second semi-final to lose to Claremont might not have been the type of football they were playing early on, but the Bulldogs did recapture something close to that with the 21-point victory over West Perth in the preliminary final.

THERE is the chance for something special to celebrate a WAFL premiership for South Fremantle at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Sunday, but captain Dylan Main is firmly focused on getting the Bulldogs just to play at their best.

South Fremantle has the rare chance a win a premiership on home soil at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Sunday afternoon with the 2020 WAFL Grand Final against Claremont played there, but there's no complacency amongst the Bulldogs just because of that.

Part of the reason for that is the fact that just two weeks ago in the second semi-final at the very same venue Claremont beat South Fremantle by 47 points to book their Grand Final spot and force South Fremantle into a preliminary final after finishing the home and away season on top of the ladder.

SOUTH Fremantle bounced back impressive to record a 21-point WAFL preliminary final win over West Perth at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Sunday to book a spot in the Grand Final a week later also on home turf.

South Fremantle came out determined to rebound from the previous week's second semi-final loss to Claremont but the Bulldogs also never knew it would be easy up against the Falcons with a Grand Final spot on the line.

But South Fremantle kicked the last two goals of the first half and the first four of the second and that run of six consecutive goals set the stage for the eventual 11.5 (71) to 7.8 (50) victory in front of more than 5000 fans at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

AS I sit down to write this, Sunday's preliminary final is getting closer and I think myself and the boys are ready for a big game. I'm looking forward to it and looking forward to the challenge, and to having a win at the end of the day.

We have been here before and we were in the same position last year. Last week was obviously disappointing but Claremont played very well and we played very poorly. We try to erase that now and get back to what we think works for us, or what was working earlier in the year anyway.

We just put that down to a poor game from us last week. We had been struggling a little bit for form the past month as well and we just haven’t been playing the way that we want to play, but I think we've addressed that at training this week. We had a really good session on track on Thursday night in our main session, and then again on Friday everyone was up and about, and now we all can't wait for Sunday's game. You'll see a different South Fremantle team than you did last week.

SOUTH Fremantle is still in the same position it was a week ago needing a win on Sunday at Fremantle Community Bank Oval to move into the 2020 Grand Final, only this time it's in the preliminary final against West Perth.

South Fremantle earned the right to play at home throughout the finals series by finishing on top of the ladder and claiming the minor premiership so no matter the result of last week's second semi-final, they would either play at home again next.

THERE is no panic at South Fremantle with the knowledge they are still just two wins from a premiership in 2020, but starting games better is a major focus coming into the preliminary final according to captain Dylan Main.

South Fremantle was the standout team during the nine rounds of the 2020 WAFL season winning its opening seven matches to secure the Bulldogs the minor premiership for the first time since 2009.

The Bulldogs had finished in second spot in each of the last four seasons behind Subiaco ending up in three preliminary final and a Grand Final appearance, so it was a step forward during the home and away season.

QUESTION: Obviously a disappointing performance, what's your initial reaction straight after the game?
ANSWER: I just thought we were outplayed. They were better than us absolutely, they were harder at the footy, got more numbers to the ball and we watched a bit. We were beaten in all facets but the midfield really taught us a lesson and you can't win games getting it inside-50 only 20 times. We have a bit to work through.

Q: You won't win many games with a scoreless first half but I'm not sure it was really the fault of the forwards, they just didn’t see much of it?
A: We felt like every time we got it fought we felt like we were relatively dangerous, we just never really got it forward. We had two really good chances early that were after pretty clean ball movement but we missed them both. From there we really struggled but we've been better than that all year. We'll just recover first and then prepare for next week.
