COACH POST MATCH – TODD CURLEY ROUND 5

Thursday, August 20, 2020 - 11:55 AM - by Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle coach Todd Curley providing an update after the Bulldogs defeated Swan Districts in Round 5 of the 2020 Optus WAFL Premiership Season ahead of a bye and then taking on Peel Thunder in Mandurah.

QUESTION: You know Swan Districts would make themselves hard to beat and they were, and it took until the last 10 minutes for you to get on top but you eventually did do enough to win?
ANSWER:
They've been pretty good to be honest. They haven’t won any games but they've had patches against really good teams where they move the ball really quick, and challenge you. Again we didn’t start very well and I thought they hunted us, and we made a couple of really bad turnovers early that cost us. But I thought after quarter-time our intensity and willingness to compete around the ball certainly improved, and then from there we probably dominated the inside-50 count and just didn’t get it on the scoreboard. But we got no injuries which was a positive and we now have five wins so you can't complain.

SOUTH Fremantle coach Todd Curley speaking after the Round 4 WAFL victory against Subiaco at Leederville Oval by 50 points that improves the Bulldogs to a perfect 4-0 record in 2020 looking ahead to returning home this Saturday to play the winless Swan Districts.

QUESTION: It was a shaky first five minutes but then you worked your way on top and ended up dominating the second half, you would have come away pretty happy?
ANSWER: It was a disappointing first five or six minutes when I they maybe kicked three goals to nothing so that was a fair start to give them. But I thought even in the second half of the first quarter our boys started to fight back a bit. Again I thought it was an even performance. We had some good players but most blokes weighed in and did their job especially after we were sort of two down early in the second half.
